Why not build the port at the northern end of the Sea of Cortez, perhaps with a canal to a flooded Death Valley? The port could also serve Mexico. There is also research being done in the area on the use of sea water to irrigate certain crops, and plenty of solar energy to turn sea water into brackish water to irrigate many more types of crops. Related development could include, therefore, agriculture, aquiculture (including shrimping and aquatic organism-based fuels), and a major research station oriented to solar energy, focused solar energy to achieve the continuous super-high temperatures needed for nuclear fusion research, and the use of desert materials processed using solar energy such as glass-based building materials. This type of research would provide more products to export internationally and via the rail system, and provide keys to termpering the exceedingly arrid climate of the Southwest.

If this does happen American Seamen unions might want to establish halls close to the port
and that means I might be able to live in Arizona My home instead of were I live and work now. I'm a mechant mariner and miss living in Arizona.

I heard this today John at the LD 30 presentation and it was great.
I would like to keep my eye on this as it progresses. Are you planning to give this again at an open meeting forum soon?
Thanks

When the expanded Panama Canal opens the west coast ports and Mexico will be competing with Texas and east served by larger ships coming east via the Panama Canal. therefore I do not see the longer term economic merit in yet another port. Yes, if I personally do not have an investment...I SURE WISH THE MEXICANS AND THEIR PARTNERS WELL!
