It is widely assumed that Tucson Attorney John Munger is running for governor. For some reason, Munger has chosen not to set up a campaign committee and instead founded a PAC called ImagineArizona. Munger has deftly used this vehicle for media events all of the state. Jim Pederson, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate in 2006, has essentially just done the same thing. His group is called Stand Up for Arizona. The landing page is a very well done fear piece “in this moment of eminent disaster” (so much for hope.) Pederson and Munger are probably trying to get their names out there without having donors max out too early (we assume a donation to a public policy group does not affect donation limits to a specific candidate.) Normally we would write-off Pederson but it looks like the Republican will have a vigorous primary if Brewer insists on increasing taxes. Look for Munger and Pederson as the front of the pack.
